Flicker Of Hope Poem by Gita Ashok

Flicker Of Hope

As night smoothly sheds
her black veil,
dawn slowly creeps in –
leaving behind
dreams incomplete.

As life fades
into deep oblivion,
death stealthily steps in –
leaving behind
many tasks undone.

But between the dark night
and a bright dawn
and between unfinished life
and interrupting death,
there’s always something for us…
a ray of light
at the end of a dark winding tunnel,
a flicker of hope -
that dreams may be realized;
that life’s mission may be accomplished.

Hope – our very own friend
that makes
each new dawn
bring in its wake…
a new beginning,
a brand new life,
new actions to take,
new destinations to reach and
newer challenges to face…

My half-finished paintings are the main source of inspiration for this poem. Whenever I look at them, I keep wondering whether I'll be able to complete them or not before taking leave from this world! Same is true about many other incomplete things in life. I also wonder what if we knew exactly how much time we have before we can exit so we can atleast not take up new things that we are likely to leave unfinished when the time comes. I agree with your views here especially the last sentence.

This poem is really thought provoking. I am a deep and serious thinker. Many times, I would feel, if God appears before me, I would not fear Him, but ask him hundreds of questions as to why Existence is the way it is. I have always wanted to know the Purpose of Existence. Is it just to make Money, Build Families and Empires and Disappear one day? We all act as Parents, Children, Family Members, Friends etc., but one day all of a sudden disappear and never come back again. Is it like doing a Painting and then Tearing it and Throwing it? Some Painting Half Finished, Some Fully Finished? What is this Design? Many times, I would go to sleep expecting some answers at least in Dream world, waking up, virtually getting no replies. Some times, I would doubt if existence and evolution is just random mutations and just survival of the fittest? GOD why don't you answer me, I would question. Many times, I would read the books of Sri Aurobindo and Mother and find their writings solacing and acceptable. After reading Hundreds of Books on Theology, Meta Physics and Philosophy, still many of my doubts remain uncleared. I still believe a lot in the Designer of this Universe. I don't fear Him. Existence can not be like playing Dice, Should not be.
