Flying Home Poem by Jade Leven

Flying Home

you’re at home after a long day
you see the people that never seem to care
you sit in the chair by the window
and feel like a prisoner as the birds fly away
you need the one thing that you’ve lost
you look for it but it’s not there
you feel as if your life is over
and everything is done, all lines have been crossed
and you say

one day I’ll get out of this empty room
one day I won’t be alone
one day I won’t let these shadows get to me
and I’ll be flying home

in your dreams you don’t need wings
to fly all you need to do is close your eyes
but you wake up and you are not saved
and you tell yourself not to dream of hopeless things
you watch the moonlight creep across the floor
no one’s out at this hour to hear you cry
it looks as though it’s all quite simple
if nobody will answer then why should you try?

one day I’ll get out of this empty room
one day I won’t be alone
one day I won’t let these shadows get to me
and I’ll be flying home

you’re wishing for a miracle
but who believes in magic
you’re wishing for some hope, now
to make your life less tragic

one day I’ll get out of this empty room
one day I won’t be alone
one day I won’t let these shadows get to me
and I’ll be flying home

I want to get away
get me out of here

one day I’ll get out of this empty room
one day I won’t be alone
one day I won’t let these shadows get to me
and I’ll be flying home

one day I’ll get out of this empty room
one day I won’t be alone
one day I won’t let these shadows get to me
and I’ll be flying home

sit in the chair by the window
you feel like a prisoner
one day
