Focal Point Poem by Leah DeCresce

Focal Point

tell me it doesn't matter.
the truth, it lies in the past.
a melodramatic wave of repeated motions,
an inescapable flood of failures and mistakes.

but something inside me changed,
& then there was you.
the perfect star atop a perfect tree,
the spark that starts the flame.

& i changed.
i became someone better than i was before.
but doesn't everyone regress at some point or another?
i made a mistake, i made two.
morals that were questionable to begin with,
brought into the spotlight by my unwavering doubts.

& yet i still pray you'll stay,
you'll see me as the person i'm becoming & not the person i was.
though i walk a thin & precious line, i walk it for you.
i walk it for the future, the maybe's & the probably's & the 95% chance
that someday, i'll be yours.
