Fond Memories Of What Was Poem by Francis Duggan

Fond Memories Of What Was

Fond memories of what was stir up nostalgic tears
You miss the old friends you have not seen for years
Some of them still live in the Hometown far away
And like you the years too have left them looking gray
Whilst others as you are now living elsewhere
In the big Cities and Towns in the big World out there
For adventure and self betterment they left forever more
Their friends and families and old homes for a distant shore
Fell in love raised their children the grandparents of today
The biological clock ticks on as some do like to say
But the accent they grew up with to this day they retain
And fond memories of what was with them does remain
And in their flights of fancy old friends they do greet
As they walk in the Hometown on a familiar street.
