this is an old one that called to be revisited

when ur own heart betrays u
how do u go on?
how do u move past
the signs in the road
that palinly display
the foolishness u feel
for having trusted in someone
believed in something
that ur heart and mind
told u was real
and genuine
sincere and
authentic
only to discover
later on
that it was worse
than a dream
not even close to a fantasy
but a mere illusion
a trick of the light
a figment of
not ur imagination
but of ur deepest desires
a mirage in the desolate
desert of aloneness and hope
believing that love is real
that love is possible
and available
for u....for me
only to realize
how naive i was
how stupid,
how foolish, even
for believing in the first place
nothing is real
all is false
dreams are lies
wrapped in fairy tales
that we tell our children
leaving them
ill prepared for
the reality of pain
not just of a broken heart
but of a broken soul
a crushed spirit
to remain
and survive in a world
devoid of hope
where the truth
stabs deeply
leaving wounds in my soul
finally understanding
that i was wrong
to believe
that i could find
rest
peace
joy
love
in the heart of another
i followed
the echoes of promise
and got lost
behind the mirrored walls
to find at the center
of the maze
only emptiness
only aloneness
absolutely nothing
but sorrow
