Fools Poem by Mark R Slaughter

Fools

Let us go –
Not unto the wilderness
Or to climb interminability,
But on towards the overgrown paths
Of random drifts
Burning blood that courses thro’ our minds

Perhaps we’ll up and leave atop a cumulus
Ha! The fading dawn of lies
Betrays the dinosaurian happiness –
Yes, we bloomed upon a time
Rolling out our possibilities,
Naivety the undertones

And as we fall –
No need for us to shy away from images
Of nakedness caressing inner tones of skin
Atop your sheets, calculating rhythms
For the climax, coming for the come –
You can’t deny
We were;

Pray! rejoice the times
We bore the senselessness
Of circumstantial romance
In readiness for marriage in our dreams

Do not fade in curses,
Greys,
Or any other asymptotes,
For I loved you,
I truly
Did,
Do –
And ever shall your searching eyes,
Limpid in reflection

We fools,
Rejected by our fate,
Struggle on

But worry not,
I have a song
