For A Boy Who Beats On Pots And Pans Poem by Katrina Harms

For A Boy Who Beats On Pots And Pans

you remember
the closeness
we felt
-made for lovers-

maybe it’s just me
but i could’ve sworn
it was that water that
wetted
us-

wedded us
you are
so
beautiful-
It hurts
It hurts
It hurts
Like nails in my hands
i feel the tear of skin

you remember
we’re supposed to be kin
but i can’t smile
a smile of innocence

without remembering
the closeness
we felt
-made for lovers-
under a sky of a million stars
above a city of a million lights
that night

something burrowed in my heart
something evil
something sublime

remember the time
a light flickered in your eye
brief but beautiful

so beautiful,

it hurts
