For Alan Poem by Robert Combs

For Alan

I am free
don't waste a minute grieving for me
a second ago I felt
a small breeze
as an angel
whispered of his plan for me

and I saw his face
heard him call my name
he reached for me
I took his hand
and left it all the same...

I could not
stay another day
to love
to laugh
to work
to play
if it seems left undone
that is just his way

and if my parting has left a void
then fill that gap
with remembered joy
share a laugh
a kiss and
raise your glass
to a sweet souvenir
of our past

and these things I too
shall miss for
through his grace
I have savored such
good times
good friends
a lover's touch and

and if my time seemed
all too brief don't
shorten yours with needless grief
and be not burdened
with tears of sorrow
smile at the sunshine
of my tomorrow and
say this little prayer for me…

'Lord lift him up
with careful speed
and help him find
what he will need
he is in your hands
as he is freed'
