For Granted. Poem by Miki Byrne

For Granted.

For Granted.

Take nothing for granted.
Not limb, nor speech or sight.
Not hearing, comfort and movement.
The passing of dark to light.

Appreciate dexterity,
fluid coordination.
Delight in joints bending
in swift perambulation.

Be aware of potential,
what you can and may and will.
Of the joy of speed and movement
the peace of sitting still.

Take nothing for granted.
Hold everything as a gift.
For all these things are precious
And sometimes loss is swift.

Age and illness capture
With stiffness and with pain.
Take not yourself for granted
You are unique and will sustain.
