For I Love You Poem by Michael John Cook

For I Love You

Love you, I said
Cowardly in its tone
Rushed from my lips
To mask it's true weight
No eye contact
I'd waited till she had turned
Like an afterthought
Hiding the real truth
I loved her

I Love you, I should have said
At close quarters
With no audience
No escape from its meaning
The truth in my eyes
Visible with no distraction
A proud honesty
The line drawn in the sand
If I loved her

I am in love with you
I always have been
Hear my confession
Feel not any pressure
This is but a truth
These feelings for you
Not an adolescent crush
Grown as we both have
I love you
