For If You Go Poem by Danny Ballan

For If You Go

Don’t go
Into an oblivious world,
And you leave us all alone
For the new demons to fight;
We cannot win;
We are too old;

Wrinkles show how deep and treacherous
our natures are that we cannot believe;
Not even in you and the bell has rung
To summon some of the old;
To remember the old days;
And the summons we did not use to answer,
But there somewhere in the mind
Remains the memory of a deed undone;
Another illusion in a dream -
None of us woke to see if it were real.

Don’t go as well
And leave us all behind
Because we left you first, we know,
But it is you who can bring the ship again afloat;
For we are too heavy to move,
And you are too young to dive,
And the ship is suffering under our weight,
And with every ferocious storm that hits,
The ship is tired of our calling it the fate;
When we made none of which,
And let none of which make us;
We did not do anything;
We didn’t let it be;
As we couldn’t be ourselves-
Except the watchers of our own vessel
Sinking slowly to the bottom of the sea.

For if you go,
The heart will beat slower,
And the passion won’t anymore glow,
And the hands altogether cannot
Remove one little stone or prove
We are young no more to prove we are young;
The time of good and green will only be
One simple memory
In the minds of some with Alzheimer’s;
We cannot remember,
So forget about us and move on;
Don’t believe what we don’t believe
And don’t follow us;
It’s pretty down steep
Into an endless abyss we go;
You climb and leave us down below
For we had our chance which we blew;
The future now lies into your own hands,
And the world has to be again young;
Let us see the new world in you.
