For Miss Maria Issic Poem by Lora Cooley

For Miss Maria Issic

Maria's poem said that the song she sings isn't wrong
I say it just flows to another
Beat
And to some people that makes it sound off
But to me
To me I sing a song to the same beat with different words
I take different pauses
That throws people
Off
It makes people question me
But look at my name
There's no question mark there
I know who I am
I don't need you to understand anything more then that
I don't need you to understand my words
They're misspelled and misplaced
I do things for me
My friends aren't convinced that I live the real that could be
They spill letters that form the words
Come out
But I have no where to come out from
Its not part of me
Me is capital L O R lower case a
I live this way because it makes me happy
But I use to live for others' happy
My parents hear this new song and feel that it's off key
They try to force conformist beats into my head not knowing that the drums I use
Are a bit
Louder
And when their beats can't beat me into
Submission
They beat the words selfish and horrible against my ears
Confusing my words with theirs
My
Beat quickchanges
Itsfasterharsher
Moreconfusing
Untilpeoplearoundmetellme
That it's fine
It
Is
Fine
They rush comforting words to my side
And the drums that roll the rhythm inside of my song
Are playingA
Different
Beat
they say that the song
I sing
Is wrong
No
My words are different
Yes
So different that they rarely under
stand
that
I stand
Under the art project that I call
Me
The college
The patch works
The water colors
The pastels
The acrylics
The leather hard clay
That forms
Me
And for those of you that can feel and
Follow this beat
I want you know that this beat
Is the song I sing
Now raise your hand if you still think its wrong
