For My Son Poem by Andrea Valles Mata

For My Son

I blinked my son,
And my bundle of joy
Was a boy,
Serious, sensitive and sunny
You made me laugh,
You made me cry,
And spend a lot of money.

I blinked my son,
And the little boy,
Was growing into a man,
Clever, caring and curious,
I grind my teeth,
I bite my tongue,
Feeling mostly furious

I blinked my son,
And the little child,
Is smarter now than me,
Wicked, wonderful and wise,
I bloom with love,
I bloat with pride,
As he takes off with the guys!

A man you are,
So strong and tall
Sometimes to win,
Sometimes to fall,
A man you are
Unbound and free,
So much to do, so much to see.

So go and capture your new life,
Build a home, get a wife
Sometime a but,
Sometimes a maybe
You will always be my baby.
And no matter where you roam,
Remember, I am you anchor, I am your home.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this poem a couple of days ago. I feel as if my life is entering a new phase. I used to write poetry, but haven't felt inspired for over 20 years. Suddenly my creativity seems to be flowing.
This poem was inspired by a discussion I had with my boy. I was so proud and pleased that we could now communicate as adults and that he has views and opinions that made me think.
