For The Times That I Am Not There Poem by Riley Choma

For The Times That I Am Not There

I am sorry for the times I wasn’t there.

I wasn’t ‘busy’ doing practical things, and by now you probably know you’ve received many lies.

I was busy, but not with simple things.

No…

I was busy trying to wake up when I was so weak I didn’t want to breath.

I am sorry for the times I wasn’t there.

I wasn’t ‘not feeling well’ with a stomach ache or a cough, and by now you know, but at the same time you don’t…

I was not feeling well, but not because of simple things.

No…

I was not feeling well about life, and I was trying to find the strength to keep going.

I am sorry for the times I am not there.

I am not busy doing practical things.

I am not busy with simple things.

No…

I am busy trying, and I know it may not look like it sometimes, but I am still here, therefore I am.

I am sorry for the times I am not there.

I am not ‘not feeling well’ with a stomach ache or a cough.

I am not feeling well, but not because of simple things.

No…

I am not feeling well, and I know I may look fine, but ‘things are not always what they seem’ still applies to human beings.
