For You. Poem by Stephen Hovious

For You.

Rating: 2.7

My false idol, my secret desire,
Nothing in this world can take me higher.
Setting you up to be falsely worshipped, idealized,
Dreamed of at night.
I see that my “obsession” can’t be right,
That any possibilities are out of sight.

[Stanza 2]

What I dream about at night may never come true,
But always remember that there’s someone out there dreaming of you.
The sparkle in your eye, the way you make everything alright,
The way you can make even the darkest day seem so bright.
There’s times I never want you to leave my sight,
Cause looking at you just seems so right.
I know I shouldn’t put you first, above all,

Mark your name into my wall,
Let you reduce me to my knees and watch me crawl.
As my end seems to be near,
One thing is clear,
And that one thing is I will always hold you dear.

[Stanza 3]

You beat me down, the damage is done,
Now I’ve caught you on the run.
Your fake apathetic lies,

The hurtful way you say goodbye,
You refuse to leave me with a dry eye,
I’ll end the night with another sigh.
So help me run away from all my fears,
Help me overcome the voices I hear,
Whatever you do, don’t cause me another tear.
