Found Poem by Irene Michele Zarr

Found

I thought I had lost it.
That black, rubber-coated,
metal jagged-edged firestarter
The last remembrance
the last piece
the only piece
of my failed machine

Rushing, running,
music blaring, bass thudding
a heartbeat, confusing
my own voice blasting through
open windows provide a distraction; I reach, I drift
I feel the ground change
Looking up, I see another life
another machine
My body twists involuntarily
and I lose
control.
Flying through air, rolling in the grass, a sign coming towards me and let steering go as all the world crashes in around me Gravity loses place and when I stop, all I can do is stare at the wreckage that
should’ve
left me
dead

My ragdoll form is pulled
out the open window
and the once-living being that saved my life is towed away
shedding shattered glass
and compacted metal shards as she goes…
And the little metal unlocker still hangs
from my keychain
One
little reminder
of what I lost
and what I almost lost.
I have found again
my drive
all because of a key
I thought I’d never see again.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

The last remembrance the last piece the only piece of my failed machine _______________________ I often let it roll through jagged irony of my palms, I often clutch it tight playing make believe that tinny remain of the gossamer atlas we built on the morass of hope may find its way home into the cemetery of my heart where your open grave beacons me to redemption
