Four-Letter Word Poem by Aidan Clevinger

Four-Letter Word

I wrote this the first time I ever fell in love (cheesy, I know) . She's never seen this, but I have to laugh at myself whenever I read it.

People have always used four-letter words,
When they want to blaspheme and curse.
But of all the horrendous, four-letter words,
I know the one that's the worst.

I've heard it all a hundred times,
The warning's been quite clear.
And the things that happen when you say it,
Give good cause to fear.

First you feel light as air,
Your feet don't touch the ground.
Then your tongue gets knotted and tied,
You can barely make a sound.

You begin to toss and turn at night,
You start annoying your friends,
You giggle and sigh and daydream,
Oh, the madness never ends!

They tell me I'm too young to say it,
And I know it, I really do!
But as wrong as I know it is to say it,
I'm sorely tempted to.

The danger's growing every day,
I'm badly losing the fight.
There's something about you that tells me to say it,
And I think that soon I might.
