Fourth State Of Mind Poem by Willem VanVoorthuysen

Fourth State Of Mind

The substance we call water
occurs in differenT forms:
as fluid, ice or vapor.

Likewise, the human mind
works in three different states:
the past, the present and the future.

The urgent question now remains:
where am I while I dream, and
what happens to my mind?

It often seems that in my dreams
these different states of mind
become a single new one...

In which I peacefully enjoy
the memories, needs and hopes,
so often at odds when I'm awake...

I believe that God, in deep compassion,
gives me this special state of mind
as a foretaste of heaven...
