Free Fare Poem by M S Latter

Free Fare

Step inside this gleaming carriage:
Your driver's cute, the ticket's cheap
And miss the ride - you'll surely weep.

A ride of pleasure, thrills and fun,
So leave behind the life of humdrum.

You will love this high-speed dare,
Feel the blustery wind through your hair,
Feel that surge of adrenaline power
Which kicks all your pride to a sandy tower.

You're riding high on life's crest,
Enjoy and don't stop for rest,
As life is fun so live the laughs
Before becoming old and daft.

Fill your head with the wine and the smoke,
Clear the mind, breathe, and snort coke.
This is life with no bounds and no cares,
Please do smile, do enjoy life, as everyone swears.

Cavort and sleep around,
Stagger and bite the ground.
Oh - such emotional heartache -
I forgot to tell you - there is no brake.
Inject the drug and crunch the pill,
Share the trough and lap the swill.

As we plummet to life's lows
So the blackness and fright grows.
Scream! - and hope terror will pass -
Don't look at the red trackside grass.

This ride has entered a downward path
And now you're learning it's been such a farce.

As you've lasted most of the course,
And spared no time for silly remorse,
Your uncanny driver should reveal his face...
I'm often called Satan - with venom I hate God's grace -
And together we're hurtling to a vile place.

Wake up! it's too late for dreaming
And I've grown fond of your screaming.
You can exit the ride by crying to God - of course I won't tell you this -
I try to close eyes and ears and lead people to the abyss.

As we spiral through utter misery to my fiery throne
Your fanciful ride will end in my black eternal home.

True that it's dark and depressing, but the ray of hope is in the fourth line from the end.

Very good poem, such an optimistic, positive oulook on life displayed here!
