Friday Night Poem by Leah Ayliffe

Friday Night

He's so artistic
Playing the guitar and jerking off,
while people get crazy on that cough syrup stuff.

She's so iconic
classic television and drinking wine,
While the rest of the world sleeps lost in time.

These two are bound to meet and realize they stand - wide awake - on common ground. Quite literally. You show them awake while others sleep. And they are both in the mode of anticipation, passing the time (guitar, TV) until that moment when their paths cross. In the film SLEEPLESS INN SEATTLE Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks act out the whole story and it's charming and sweet, B-U-T I prefer your version as a lyric poem which gives us a parallel of images of both parties in expectation and readiness, and then our imaginations can take over for the rest.

In the development of both mind and heart one has to part company with influences that you've outgrown. This is natural, but does not just happen by getting older. It comes with acquiring confidence and dignity. Here's to fine wine with The Saint, thank you.
