I KNOW this impulse, wanting to bury myself in my books rather than face the world. Actually, I feel the NEED much less now that I'm retired and don't have to face the world in the same way but the DESIRE is still there. There is something reassuring about reading a novel in which other people live complicated lives and prevail despite their problems. I applaud the equation BOOKS = FRIENDS. Your 4-line poem speaks volumes!
