From A Man's Perspective Poem by onesimo odwa mabovula

From A Man's Perspective

You are an African man, you should be proud
But uncharacteristically of an African lion
You don’t live up to the status
You make woman rule your life
You let them make decisions on your behalf
You live in their shadow, what happened to your manhood
Did the sunny days of the summer burn it?
Or did the windy days of July to august blow it away?
Did the cold nights of winter freeze it?
Or was it washed away by the heavy rains of December?

The answer is there in your heart, you need to search for it
With great zeal or else you’ll lose it.
Dig for it, as if you’re digging for gold or the most valuable
Minerals that men in the mines seek because…

Your worth lies in the answer
As you dig deep your eyes wide open like a hunter who hasn’t eaten for days.
Sleeping in the bush trying to find something to eat

Be shy; sly and quick like a springbok running for its life
Cause the lion is on its tail. The lion in this case is the future of you children
The future of your land, the land of your fore fathers
There always room for change, but as things change at this rate it’s not a good thing
It can make or break you.

Well if you oppose by any means you will suffer the consequences of being stubborn.

Yes sir we know these things, we speak them with our mouths and confess them in our hearts, to trully know the value of manhood, be a man! I understand the substance in the seasons you speak of, I understand the reference to mother earth and the lion of yesterday now roars for a brighter tommorow, but each to his own mfo wakuthi, each to his own for it is the man, and he alone must find his manhood. thank you for a great read
