From Atop My Roof Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

From Atop My Roof

I have minimized confusion,
To know how it starts to end...
Before it begins.

I have never been one to state or brag,
About having the brightest light...
To be seen to beam day and night,
From my attic.
Addicted to getting that kind of attention,
I am not.

Nor have I ever made claims,
What I view from atop my roof...
Will benefit anyone looking in other directions.
All experiences are there to share to embrace.
I don't solicit opinions I am asked to give.
Or argue a position I prefer to take.

From atop my roof to view what I want,
Is what people do to choose.
However...
If I am asked to make a suggestion,
From someone awaiting my recommendation...
Why would my response be opposed?

And if my hospitality given,
Begins to cloud my disposition...
By those who insist it isn't what they accept.
Or expected.
Well...
From who's roof can they leave with it done?
