From Remembrance To Oblivion

A couple of drinks
Will help me get this night through
And a couple of sleeping pills
Will lock the memories that seem untrue
For once more…

I can’t really remember what it is
That I’m trying to forget
Still, every night I fall to bits
My mouth is dry and the sheets are wet

I stand amidst this strange transition
From remembrance to oblivion
A heart aflamed, a frigid mind
Will I last this opposition?

There are images I can’t define
Can they be figments of my imagination?
Remembrance from some other time
Or just my minds whole new creation

poet Dante Gabriel Rossetti

A little while a little love
The hour yet bears for thee and me

If still our heaven be lit above.
Thou merely, at the day's last sigh,
