From The Cottage Balcony Poem by Les Littleford

From The Cottage Balcony

Winter has announced its imminent arrival
the balmy days of endless summer fading
as the weather clouds roll in
and we shiver, involuntarily,
stepping on summer's grave.

A rainbow hangs over the city
colours vivid in contrast to the muted hues
of autumn leaves and lichened rocks.
Dusk comes unexpectedly early
and gulls circle above the river in their mysterious evening dance.

The recent rain has washed the leaves,
emboldened the colours,
refreshed the rivers.
There is new vitality in their rushing waters
and the canyon walls glisten in the autumn sun.
But the nights are colder, darker, longer.
