Frowns Burn Smiles Poem by Malory Joyce

Frowns Burn Smiles

I made a sandwich
and sat in the open green grass
in my front yard.
through glass,
was looking at the world painted
even then it's beautiful,
but being painted,
was not close to a natural
being.
Happiness was not full,
we expect more than what is given,
and frowns burn smiles.
My front yard was heaven,
everything could breathe and live,
and the sky was forever.
We sin, We sin,
You, I, and the rest of them,
but still smile.
There has never been
a morning we realize were living,
breathing.
It is all the same feeling
we expect to feel over and over again,
but even more so,
here when we descend,
we except it to lift itself higher
and higher.
Frowns burn smiles, and fire
fills our lungs with the sweetest downfall,
just smile.
sitting in my front yard after all
the days my frown burned my smile,
I still can smile.
