Fruitless Times...

Out of the window I can see across the rooftops
The sky is clouded and grey
Trees finally green waving in the savage wind
Another lonely day

Raindropp speckled cars unmoving, silent and blank
Where I once saw emotion and life
Worn tires and rust covering once-shining silver
Cracked windshield as though pierced by a knife

Everything seems so fruitless right now
Like I'm trying to grow plants from a rock
The clouds seem so blank; I no longer see worlds
Happy voices beyond doors only mock

Though exhaustion has not yet engulfed or drowned me
I feel tires and ached in my bones
Old before my time but with nothing to show
Right now I just feel so alone

Yes I could have tried harder; pushed rather than held on
But I feared I'd just get knocked down
Now the world's faded to grey, my childhood dreams gone
Every object upon me seems to frown

Over the years I've lived so many different lives
Always found things in which to believe
Now my imagination's dulling and ideas fail to come
And I lack the capacity to grieve

I still feel like a writer but life begs to differ
Ideas, disconnected as snowflakes, fall
I need to write to secure my escape and my saving
But I'm blocked by an unclimbable wall

Poem of the Day

poet William Butler Yeats

WINE comes in at the mouth
And love comes in at the eye;
That's all we shall know for truth
Before we grow old and die.
I lift the glass to my mouth,
