Funerals Poem by Gert Strydom

Funerals

Too many times nowadays
I have to go to church
to attend a funeral
as if life
is coming to an end.

There are few things
that cuts through me
like death
and like every
other person
I would rather live eternally.

To see a coffin disappearing
in a hole in the ground
makes you frequently realize
how final
this farewell is.
