Futility Poem by Peter Eliastam

Futility

See man, self-propelled, self-willed, ascending
To pre-eminence, his record-breaking
Naked wingless flight to summit ending
Losing – lost in every undertaking.
See him power-crazed, disobey the rules,
Check-mated in the chances that he takes.
His products from his paradise of fools
Display him broken on the laws he breaks.
From ground-control to supersonic speed,
Both origin and goal show minds unsound;
Addicted to ourselves, we fail to read
The dials, plunging straight into the ground.
For sake of yellowed laurels, lose the crown,
Forgetting we are flying upside down.
