Gavin Tarrant Poem by Francis Duggan

Gavin Tarrant

I know his father John and his mother Marie and his Grandmother Breeda Tarrant from many years ago
And though young Gavin I heard tell of him I never met to know
But sadly of his illness on the Millstreet Town Web Site I read
And sadder now to learn that he is amongst the dead.

He was not granted many years of life for to enjoy
And his heartbroken parents, siblings, relatives and friends grieve for a brave boy
Who lost the battle for his life the Reaper took him young
Though against the odds for many weeks to life he bravely clung.

That Lady Luck can be unkind in his case seems so true
The great dreams that he had in life he now cannot pursue
To fall in love and raise children and live to grow old and gray
Life sometimes can seem so unfair and that seems sad to say.

'Tis tragic when the young do die though death we all must face
Gavin is gone from his family and none to take his place
Stricken with a terminal illness from life his was a painful release
But now all that behind him and may he rest in peace.
