Gems Of Friendship Poem by Della Hodgson James

Gems Of Friendship

Rating: 5.0

Daily, hourly, as we live, we meet
Different phases of life,
New revelations, deceit
Sham, and shallowness,
Selfishness, and so
We meet with these characters
Where ever we go.
We are surprised, astonded, hurt and
Depressed, by traits in our friends,
Whom we love best. But few are true blue
Few have no dross,
Just where and how to find them
We are at a loss.

For oft the finest characters
Ars like a rough gem,
In a crude unvarnished etting
But priceless within.
Oft we meet them that seem
So pleasant without,
Yet the better we know them
The more we are in doubt.

For some inferior quality
Will dropp out here and there,
To spoil, what to the majority
Would seem faultlessly fair.
But true friendship is like
A magnet, and never repells,
Tho the exterior may seem rough
The interior excells.

They are pliable as elastic
Can meet life without a dent,
They adjust themselves
To curcumstances, in any event.
They sympathize with you in sorrow
Share your pleasures and fears,

They are happy when you're happy
Laugh and shed a happy tear.
I hagve found them gems of friendship
Priceless treasures, one and all,
Look around you lest you miss them
For their names, I'll not recall.
