Gender Blender Poem by Ted L Glines

Gender Blender

Gender Blender
by Ted L Glines

Deep within your mirror stands a woman or a man,
equipped with all the right things, according to some plan,
alpha this or alpha that, it makes you want to shout,
except in those odd moments when you feel a tiny doubt.
Take the man who hugs a man (as all Italians do) ,
or the gal who wears a gun in her law enforcement blue,
are they conscious of their sex, is their sex who they are,
or is it incidental, like the pin stripe on a car?
Take Arnold Schwarzenegger, the 'Terminator' guy,
the symbol of 'macho' for the likes of you and I,
but underneath that toughness there's a loving soul inside
with feminine compassion which he often tries to hide.
You're not sure of what you are, no not really really sure,
the line is sort of fuzzy, the distinction is impure,
you think and you wonder, and slowly cogitate,
and if you knew for certain, would that make you celebrate?
Take the COGIATI, a test for you and me,
put it in the browser, take the test and you will see
that sex is not so certain, an attitude at best,
and you will never know the truth until you take the test.

Author's Notes: My thanks to Durin for the COGIATI gender inventory test, and thanks to Arnold for having a name which is hard to fit into a poem!
