Genes Poem by Edwina Reizer

Genes

Look at yourself
and you can tell
that you're from people
you knew so well.
The eyes of father
that looked at you
and never stopped
'til he was done with you.
The nose of mother whose scent was near
each time she cooked
all through the year.
The mouth of Granny
that gave a smile
that looks like yours
every once in a while.
A chin that juts
when he was mad,
Grandpa's gift
that's not so bad.
Put them together
and see what it means.
Your face is a product
of all their genes.
