Genie In The Bottle Poem by Edwina Reizer

Genie In The Bottle

Where is that genie in the bottle?
Where is it that he dwells?
Oh if I could find him
I wish these living hells
could evaporate like a vapor
and rise like a mist in the air.
I'd wish he could bring all decency back
and make everyone aware
of beauty, of cleanliness
and grace.

I'd rub that bottle again and again
until I saw his face
and when he appeared I'd ask of him
to soothe the human race.
But the genie in the bottle
that I've been searching for
cannot be found any longer.
He lives only in folklore.
We must be the genie
and perform the miracles we need.
We must wake up every morning
and try to do a good deed.
