Getting Lilly Ready Poem by Dallin Bruun

Getting Lilly Ready

Lilly's preschool today
my turn to get her ready

she said, I need my preschool bag
I said, Let's get your socks on first

rolling. kicking. screaming. hysteria.

I find the preschool bag
sedates her like a tranquilizer dart

when I dropp her off
she walks toward the school but
twists her head
a few degrees beyond ridiculous
to watch her following shadow
