Getting Ready Poem by Jenny Kim

Getting Ready

Leaves fall
Gradually the wind becomes harsher
The images of warmer days that I recall
Become blurs

It is almost the start of winter
The Disaster, Darkness, and Danger
Full of bitterness and anger
And failure

Getting out the warmest outfit
Preparing myself, unfolding my sleeve
No, I do not avoid it
Because I believe

After this storm, spring will appear
Blooming and hopeful and meanwhile
“Turning all my tears
Into smiles”

Just like birds migrate
I am bracing myself, getting ready
To endure the winter, toward the spring that awaits
for me. And I will walk toward it, with glee
