Getting To Zero - Retold Poem by Phanice Wamukota

Getting To Zero - Retold

Rating: 5.0

By now you are aware that AIDS is a killer
Yet reviving your memories remains my hobby
For together we can rise against the pandemic
That has been snatching our loved ones from us
You know of Abstaining, Being faithful and the use of Condoms
From the famous and familiar slogan of the ABCs
Still the unborn babies of mothers fallen victims
We must learn and be wiling to protect from the virus

Sharing prick items remains a grave danger
For many do harbor the highly dreaded monster
A monster that funny enough doesn't find males superior
Yet still has no mercy on the supposed inferior gender
Your level of education wont turn it off either
And it wouldn't really care if you owned all the wealth
Young and old alike we must get this straight
For whenever AIDS is concerned, Ignorance is no defense

Mock not a brother who's unfortunately fallen victim
And shun off not from a sister who also never saw it coming
Instead motivate them to get on with Treatment
For solidarity remains the weapon to use in this battle
Welcome the orphaned under your roof for a meal
You'll help them move on and the shuttered hope to gather
You've got the love so share the love and spread the good will
As we heal the world and make it a better place for all

Zero is the number that's been chosen for the season
Zero, a neutral integer chosen for a reason
As we aim to lower the level of new infections to zero
Avoid discrimination and you will be my hero
AIDS related deaths we also seek to eradicate
And with red ribbons and leaflets we aim to educate
For with unity we'll make this generation distinct
And in due time the monster will become extinct.
