Glass Heart Poem by Loraine Lotter

Glass Heart

Rating: 4.0

Pretty face, pretty heart.
Just a shame it’s ripped apart.
Such a waste, such a sham.
So the lion killed the lamb.
Did you change your mind? Did you just get bored?
Guess you didn’t love her more.
Can’t you hear her heart crying for the moon?
It was beating just for you.

I’m not lost in the dark, just fixing my heart.
I’ll stroll off so far, picking up shards,
but I’ll come back intact.

I hear you’re making a clean sweep, swimming hard against the tide.
But just remember this for me – once bitten twice as shy.

I’m not lost in the dark, just fixing my heart.
I’ll stroll off so far, picking up shards.
I’m not lost in the dark, just fixing my heart.
I’ll stroll off so far, picking up shards,
but I’ll come back intact.
Next time, my heart won’t crack.
