Glosters Poem by Michael Pruchnicki

Glosters

It was a long time ago
on a river called the Imjin,
about thirty miles north of Seoul
when thousands of Chinese infantry
mounted an attack on 29 Brigade

Death that month of April bloomed
among the men of the 8th Hussars
and the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers
as well as the Royal Gloucester Regiment

What seemed defeat for 29 Brigade then
was later accounted the first battle
that broke the Chinese spring offensive

Sometimes one has to stand and fight
