Go Ahead Alone Poem by Scott Stevenson

Go Ahead Alone

Rating: 2.2

go on, because you must. because you want to,
you can, you will, and I'm not
on your shoulders.
go ahead. munch on a dead cigarette
and look at your life.
go ahead alone, 'cause you can't pull me
away from myself.
lose your posture and pretty words
in a dark lake of spirits and smoke. you can do it.
I won't be joining it.
go ahead, 'cause I'm rooted to my
fine state of mind.
spend your thrills and money as
your health dissolves by your hand.
I'll not go off this square of mine. not to
see me break my body. I won't throw down my arms.
you've never moved this man to walk in your storm.
you can't convince him. I won't say I am so wise,
but I'm not interested in suicide.
