If people come here only to read the poem that inspired the Beatles' song, then they might also take the time to look at other English poets of the Elizabethan age, which I believe to be the golden age of English poetry. (Report) Reply

I think Mr. Douglas is only joshing. Actually, doesn't Paul McCartney sing 'Golden Slumbers FILL your eyes? ' In any case, the Beatles put Thomas Dekker on the map, for those interested enough in the lyrics to do a little research. (Report) Reply

...so you should believe if you think McCartey somehow beat Dekker in writing this. McCartney not being born until about four centuries later, though, I highly doubt this. The ballad was simply adapted to sound prettier in a pop-rock song. Wantons wouldn't have sounded all that well in a Beatles song, would it? (Report) Reply

Yes, the words are all wrong. Here`s the correct ones....

    Golden slumbers kiss your eyes,
Smiles awake you when you rise
Sleepy prettu darling do not cry
And I will sing a lullaby (Report) Reply

That out of dust created man,
