Good Bye 2013 Poem by Mary Amrutha

Good Bye 2013

Rating: 3.5

Thanks for all the great things you gave me
Thanks for all the wonders you showed me
Thanks for the pain you gave me
which made me stronger than before
Thanks for the lessons you taught me
that I'll never forget in my life
Thanks for giving life to many beautiful ones
but still my heart cries for losing some dear ones
Thanks for giving me many new friends
Like every coin having two sides,
I love you and hate you at the same time
but I am sure that I'll miss you...

That`s a nice gratitude shown. You appear to speak for all of us and this poem has a touch of reality.

It is a good poem. Lots of rambling thoughts are spontaneously sprouting from the depth of each line.

This is something I have learned from reading poetry for many decades: Always give an example for every general statement. You write in the beginning that the year 2013 gave great things and wonders but I want to know WHAT they are. I can't visualize wonders - it means too many things at once - but if you were to say I was hot and irritated and then the sky darkened, a huge black cloud crowned my neighborhood and the monsoon rain poured its refreshing waters over my hair, and face and all of me rejoiced. Now I KNOW what wonder means for you, and that's what I want from you as a poet - something special that I cannot experience in ice-cold Minnesota - Last week the temperature was -30 degrees below zero. It was so cold that I could barely breathe when I walked outside to my car and I had to carry my three year nephew because he was crying he was so cold. That's the experience of pain - in real, concrete, vivid language.
