Goodbye Poem by Amy Serhienko

Goodbye

For Daddy

Tidal waves wash over me -
disbelief, fear, pain, grief.
You're going, and you won't let me say goodbye.
I try to reach you, but I'm swimming in sand,
in mud,
in concrete.

You're sinking faster and faster, with your back turned,
and I can't move.
Is this how it ends?
Do you just disappear, turn to dust,
with nothing left here
except the memory in my mind's eye?

Yes, I guess you do.
I'm really losing you this time,
even though I almost think you really left a long time ago.
