Goodbye Poem by Elizabeth Grace

Goodbye

Rating: 3.0

It would have been
easier
to stay silent, to let you
fade away with a whisper
and the sharp
shattering of my heart
breaking into a hundred thousand
flaws.
It would have been
simpler
to let goodbye
mean goodbye -
mean I'm done trying,
let all we had together
die.
It would have been
so much easier.
But how could you expect me
to let what I loved
more than I loved
anything
die in my hands?
Slip through my fingers
like sand?
How could you ask me
to let you go
as I shatter in the vibrations
of your memory,
of your choices,
your voice?
Now know
that I have given up.
I am gone, and you
will never have my heart again,
but it would have been
so much easier
if I had never cared
at all.
Trust came at too high of a price.
This is my
forever goodbye.

A word so few want to hear, but it is often a necessary evil. Lovely writing, just lovely.
