Graham*2 Poem by Petra Creffield

Graham*2

Graham2

Are you a holiday romance?
Temporary comfort blanket
From the pain of my solitude
Or something more long lasting
Here to stay?

Why are you here right now in my life
Another teacher to teach me what?
That I can go way back when
And have my husband again
If I want to

Not sure I do you know
Think I want something new to grow
No more reheated beans
Never as good the second time round
This I now know

So as tempting as that comfort may be
I know I wont stay with you
Will let you go
Along with all the others
and continue my quest
for the one
for the best

if I could be less wise
less able to see
I could maybe fall in love with you

If I could be less wise
Not see through these eyes
I could maybe fall in love with you

But the blinkers are off now
And I can no longer hide from the view
And pretend I don’t see that you
Are someone I have loved before
Within a new form, different shaped eyes
New skin, yet what is within
Are places I have visited before
That I have no desire to return to

However sweetly familiar those places may be
It really is time for me to get free
Of the past and let it go once and for all
The old me is dead
A new one reborn
And this one doesn’t need one like you
A graham mark two
