Graves Of Magadan Poem by Hubert Wilson

Graves Of Magadan

Buried and long forsaken!
Apprehensive still over action not taken.
Rescued not by choice.
Obligatory token deceitful efforts voiced.
No way their families meant to know the horrid truth?

Four brave men, and more, lost in their unfulfilled youth.
Intolerable what was not done.
Fast cowardly one!
Taken on a one way trip to the misery of Magadan!
Young life to end before it really began?

Today in a gulag tundra plot -
Wasted away in the same hopeless spot -
Only time marks the windswept graves of men their country soon forgot?
