Great Going, Mother. Poem by Valerie Chase

Great Going, Mother.

Rating: 4.8

Don't you get it?
I did all I could.
Everything in my weakening power - just so all is understood.
Now the feeling is less than weak,
and even more so nothing left to speak.
You make me so insigificant,
like the ruler of nothing at all.
You do so well at watching me tumble and fall.
How naive of me, grasping and hoping for your hand.
All I came to, was a crashing land.
Flat on my face, you didn't protect me from the still ground.
A string of pearls represent nothing.
A foster mothers picture displays something loving.
The wish for you to be the same, has ruined all hopes of recovering again.

Not only an affective title, but a very direct cry from the heart. I think there comes a time when a child (of any age) has to say goodbye to the parent (which they may only have had as an ideal anyway) and realize that now they are the (perhaps soon to be) parent of the parent... pretty moving poem Valerie, especially those lines 'You make me so significant, Like the ruler of nothing at all....'

This is very moving Valerie. I know I struggle with my own relationship (or lack of one) with my mother so I can relate well to this. Sincerely, Mary
