Great Master Of Artistry 1727-88 Poem by Joyce Hemsley

Great Master Of Artistry 1727-88

Liken to a beautiful song
artistic greatness lives on.

Thomas Gainsborough was born in England
Sepulchre Street, Sudbury, Suffolk...
the street took on his name, becoming a
museum for his fame, his portraits and
his own favoured landscapes.
Self taught was he, but at age of fourteen
Thomas attended the London Academy
to study the fine and intricate art of etching.
Later in life in his mid-forties, Gainsborough
originals included a few Royal portraits,
namely, George III and Doctor Johnson.
And a masterpiece of his two daughters
chasing a butterfly; not to forget a very
lovely and natural portrait of his wife.

Liken to a beautiful song
artistic greatness lives on.
