Guide Poem by Bireswar Halder

Guide

I deeply enjoy a natural beauty of the sunset
Twilight dispersing slowly before final dip into the sea
I fade somewhere else inspite of severe noises of billows
My heart fills with a divine pleasure in meditation.

But my meditation loses its spell with her appearance as Apsara
An aroma fills the air around me and I become restless
Her uncontrolled soft long hair spread over my face
I open my eyes and I feel I am in midst of thousands of tulips.

What a pleasant mysterious atmosphere I feel alone
It seems that I am no more on earth but in the heaven
No attraction of the senses, no desire, only a celestial bliss
Finally she appears before me, one I dreamt for so long.

I gaze at her hour after hour and thank the creator
Her black sharp eye seems a deep blue sea
I fail to measure which sea is the deepest one
I forget in which should I plunge and celebrate.

Slowly she stands and holds my hands firmly
And says, 'Can't you recognize me, my dear?
I was with you all along, I am your guide and follow me'
Yes, she is none but my guide long lost, one I forgot completely.

First and foremost let me wish you and your family a very happy and auspicious Deepavali and congratulate you on your recently published book of poem. Now coming to the poem, like a magician waving his magical wand, you have metamorphosed the poem in its last stanza where the whole panorama changes from a sense of sensuality to higher level of divinity.
