Hanging On Poem by Paul Brookes

Hanging On

Coruscation, rectilinear salutations,
rusty tired voices drift inside heads.
too perky she says. the person you are calling cannot
come to phone right now please leave a message.

listen to the dreadful drear drone of a hung up buzz.
wrong number.
coiled coils coiled,
you hang swift receiver
a silent mute, no flowing massage.
the person you are calling cannot
come to phone right now please leave a message.

flawed forms flicker lifeless,
plastic wires, chips buttons,
anticipating acall that never comes,
the person you are calling cannot
come to phone right now please leave a message.............
